Halloween is almost here, and we are so excited!
Let’s be honest. It’s kind of hard to dislike a holiday that includes candy, scary movies and fun costumes.
Although Halloween is a lot of fun, preparing for it can be a little expensive.
But it doesn’t have to be. Keep on reading to learn more.
Set a Budget for Candy, Costumes and Decorations:
The truth is, it’s easy to get a little carried away when it comes to Halloween shopping.
If you aren’t careful, your child could easily spend a lot of money on their costume, candy or decorations.
No need to worry. Here’s what to do.
Before the big Halloween shopping trip, your child can write out a list of everything they’d like to purchase and how much they’d like to spend.
You can always look over it with them afterwards to make sure they aren’t forgetting anything.
Having a solid budget can help keep them on track and prevent overspending.
Keep Your Eyes Open for Coupons and/or Sales:
Just because a promotion isn’t advertised doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
You just have to do a little homework. Here’s an example. Let’s say your daughter wants to dress up as a witch, and she found a great witch costume at a local costume store. The only thing is, it comes with a hefty price tag. No need to worry – there are a few things she can do.
1) Reach Out to Customer Support:
It never hurts to ask the store if they have any promotions coming up. Who knows – your child’s favourite witch costume may be going on sale any day. But she never would have known if she didn’t ask.
2) Join Newsletters:
Several businesses offer discounts in exchange for joining their newsletter. If that is an option, your child can sign up and take advantage of the savings.
3) Google it:
Before blogs and social media were popular, most consumers could only find coupons in newspapers or flyers.
Those days are now over.
There are hundreds if not thousands of platforms out there that offer exclusive coupon codes and promotions for their readers.
A few minutes of Googling can potentially save your child quite a bit of money on their Halloween shopping spree.
Buy Candy in Bulk:
Buying candy in bulk is a great way to save money. You just have to make sure you don’t overdo it and buy too much.
If your child does end up purchasing too much candy, there is no need to worry. They can give the leftovers to friends and family or donate it.
Make Your Costume at Home:
Purchasing a Halloween costume on sale isn’t the only way to save money.
Your child can make their costume at home using items around the house or inexpensive items from the local dollar store.

Make Your Own Decorations:
Sure, it’s convenient to walk on over to the store and purchase some spooky decorations.
But there are other options. Your child can easily make their own decorations at home.
Some paint, construction paper, scissors and glue can go a long way. If you don’t have those supplies at home already, they can easily be purchased for a couple of dollars.
Not only is making decorations at home cost-effective, but it is also a lot of fun.

Get a Pumpkin at the Grocery Store:
Yes, going to the pumpkin patch is a lot of fun, but it can be quite expensive, as there usually is an entrance free.
Purchasing a pumpkin at your local grocery store is generally more cost-effective.
At the end of the day, actually carving the pumpkin is the best part.
The only not so fun part is cleaning up all those seeds.
Well, actually that can be kind of fun…
As you know, Halloween will be quite different this year. But, we can still have an amazing and spooky day at home with family.
We can still dress up. We can still eat way too much chocolate. And we can still get lost in our favourite scary movies we’ve seen a dozen times.
Happy Halloween!
