Our Story

the journey

Like many parents, we had no intention of having the “Money Talk” with our daughter when she was only 6 years old.  She was so young and we thought she couldn’t possibly understand. Boy were we wrong.   As entrepreneurs our life had just taken a turn for the worse when our business closed and our family and our finances were thrown into turmoil.  There was stress in our home and we couldn’t hide it from our young children anymore.  So we made a conscience decision to start talking to them and teaching them about money – the tangible and the emotional sides. It improved our lives forever.  And when I experienced the benefits that open, honest conversations about money can have in a family, I knew it was my calling to share our journey with other families so that more homes could have less stress by simply talking to each other about money with a positive mindset.  I learned that it’s never too early to be rich in financial literacy.

Stacey Muhs

Toronto resident Stacey Muhs has played many important roles that helped build the foundation for the financial literacy program Savvy Kids –  years of experience  in early childhood education, entrepreneurship and motherhood.

A wife and mother of two, Stacey has used her own real-life experiences to develop a fun and engaging program that empowers parents to have candid conversations with their children about money. Her mission is to set a new standard in raising financially-savvy children who make money decisions based on values and financial knowledge and grow into prosperous and impactful adolescents and adults.

Stacey has been an entrepreneur for over 25 years, owning a many companies, including  10 years as owner of multiple child care centres – a family business that included more than 30 locations throughout Canada. Caring for children ages 6 weeks through 12 years, Stacey used her years of first-hand experience to author a series of 15 children’s books focused on everything from toilet training and sleep habits to biting and nutrition.  Her entrepreneurial spirit eventually led to real estate investing, providing her with a deep understanding of the highs and lows of the financial world.

The powerful combination of knowledge Stacey gained as a mother, entrepreneur, childcare provider and investor set the stage for Savvy Kids. By providing the critical, hands-on resources needed to facilitate meaningful discussions about money, Stacey has given parents the ability to put fun into finance at a time when education on this important topic isn’t widely accessible.

“I started Savvy Kids to help families across the world go from not knowing what to say about to money to having easy,  meaningful money conversations.”
